Blue Bombers fall to Elks in first pre-season game

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Edmonton Elks matched up on Friday for the first pre-season game of the year. The field was riddled with new faces for the defending Grey Cup Champions but ultimately fell to the Elks in a 30-20 loss. Despite the loss, there were a lot of positives to take away from this loss for the Blue Bombers.

The biggest positive was the offense’s ability to drive the ball down the field. Mike O’Shea was very impressed with the two quarters Dru Brown and Dakota Prukop play in the game.

Brown took snaps in the first and third quarters where he completed 10 of 13 passing attempts for a total of 108 passing yards and one touchdown.

Prukop lined up behind the center in the second and fourth quarters where he completed five of 14 passes for a total of 81 passing yards. he also rushed for 18 yards which included an eight-yard rushing touchdown.

CFL veteran LB Adam Bighill was also impressed with the team.

“I saw some glimpses of some great plays and great efforts,” said linebacker Adam Bighill. “It was good to watch and that’s what these games are for – evaluating – and seeing how guys play with pads on when the lights are on.

“It was entertaining. Some big plays and guys putting out their best performances because this is when it counts. Guys know you’ve got to take advantage of opportunity, and that’s right now.”
